Vintage shopping

So yesterday I was walking my dog ( in the rain .. ) and lifting my spirits with a little window shopping. The first thing that made me smile were these "Dorothy" shoes from Shock for 75 €.

As I continued through the grey streets of Stockholm I suddenly came upon this most delightful little shop !

The name of the shop was "Old Touch" ...

They had sooo many beautiful things...

Actually I became quite "blind" ...

I wanted to give myself a little "pick me up" for the day, but what ever would I choose ?? Also my budget was quite limited, but then ...

I found these ! This sweet brooch with matching earrings, to wear on a with my grey fitted jacket or say my green 80s/40s blouse was successfully bargained down to 10 € ! Usually I never were clips as I need a bit of "dangle", but these were just irresistible and look quite pretty on me ;)

Celebrating !

Since this is my 50th post I wanted to ( finally !) have my own first GIVE AWAY ! And so I am giving away a pair of much loved black earrings that have a certain "divaesque" quality ! :)

All you have to do is :

1) Post a few words about it on your blog.

2) Let me know that you are interested in participating ! :) And the winner will receive them via mail where ever she lives in the world !

They are black & gold, with clips

Trés sexy... ;) A winner will be annonced on the 28th of this month !

Also, I´ve just created a Facebook page called Divas House, were I´m hoping we can meet ( if it works as I hope it will, I mean hm...I am no FB expert... ;) I thought it could be cool to have a place were those of us who feel like it could chat, exchange tips, photos and just generally hang out ( perhaps with a glass of champagne, no ? :) in a more concentrated way. Look at the bottom of the page !

And I´m planning to host my first CHRISTMAS WEB-COCKTAIL in my FB "house" sometime early December before I leave for Ghana again. All in the spirit of getting out of the before mentioned closet - ha ha. More information to come !

Revelation #1

I have decided its about time I step out of my blog "closet"... I so enjoy seeing some of you fellow bloggers in your daily outfits or attending different events that it would be fun to do the same. Although I am by profession an extrovert ( as an actress/director ) person it still feels a bit like loosing ones "blog virginity" by submitting actual photos of myself. So I thought I would do it bit by bit, sort of like a virtual mental striptease :)

So my first "strip" is where I live. The clue being the poster above. The Knicker Kittens are a talented group of burlesque artists whose revue I will see next Saturday. Acually my first burlesque revue ever ! Where ? In Stockholm - in other words revelation #1

I live in Sweden :) Also...

Tataaa !Ms Frollein von Sofas latest creation ! Beautiful - I just love her work ! :)

Are you a corset lover ? ;)

All corsets and the opera coat are from Fairy Goth Mother who do the most AMAZING corsets !! See for yourselves !

I totally LOVE this outfit ! Because I have "une grande derriere" ( yes, go look it up ;) I am more found of corset models that go all the way down on your hips. What Katie did has a beautiful Morticia corset that Ive been wanting for ages... But I might just go for this one instead !

This is also exquisite.

Wouldn't it be grand to wear it with this opera coat !

And if I get to be bold enough to do some burlesque dancing ... I would totally buy this fantastic piece ! Is she wearing one of Frollein von Sofas pompoms ? ;)

Personally, I more in favour of the under bust corset, as I have a small bust, but quite broad chest. That way you can wear your own bra. Isn't this one pretty !

However there are many over bust corsets that are beautiful.

I also love rich fabrics which is why I was attracted to this one.

Finally, I added this one for all you polka-dot lovers out there ;)

My kind of hair !

Image from here.

So, I tried putting my hair in rollers today. I have never done that, not by myself...But first let me explain a thing or two "black" hair.

Our hair is amazingly versatile. It can be curly or straight. It can be worn in a simple Afro or a complex braid style . But versatility comes at a price - our hair is also extremely fragile, especially if we perm it and then abuse it with different heating devices. Thus drying out our already dry locks. Brushing is another a no-no as it breaks our hair big time.

Now, those of you who have your hair in a 1940s style know that curling and brushing is all part of the whole look... So, I decided to see if I could achieve that the look, hopefully without too much brushing.

The second thing is that when I was in Cape Town I went to this hair salon where they knew how to work with my hair. After washing and deep conditioning my hair. They would a) put my hair in rollers b) put me in the hair dryer) blow-dry my hair d) flat-iron it. I know, that's heat, heat & more heat... But OMG I looked a-m-a-z-i-n-g ! :) So, I asked them to teach me, since I did not know how to do any of the above... When I came back I was eager to try myself, which I did (partly) - today !

Well... the experience was sort of ... like one of those movies... you know the kind where the leading lady is Goldie Hawn or Sandra Bullock... and the genre is...comedy... ( or perhaps comedy/horror ...)
